Basically this method is intended for some patient with severe case of borderline personality disorder. It is a very optimistic approach that can help the therapist to have a continuing support to the patient.

Dialectical behavior therapy borderline personality disorder was created by an expert psychologist named Marsha Linehan from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Borderline Personality Disorder

This therapy is based is on the borderline personality disorder’s bio-social theory. She assumed that this condition is a result of a vulnerable emotion of a person while growing up due to environmental circumstances, which she referred as invalidating environment.

A person with weak emotion cannot handle mild stress than normal people do. As a result they will react negatively and find it hard to return to the normal baseline after the stress is already detached. That is why Linehan suggested this therapy for borderline personality disorder.

Primarily, dialectical therapy has four modes such as individual therapy, group skills training, telephone contact and therapist consultation.  Each of these modes can be applied to the patient so that they can able to cope up with their borderline personality disorder.
